See How Ancient Past and Present Meet in This Coastal Town
Archaeologist and National Geographic explorer Gabriel Prieto was raised in Huanchaco, a coastal town in northern Peru. Huanchaco has been home to many cultures over the past 3,500 years, including the Moche, Chimú, and Inca. To this day, Huanchaco remains a bustling surfing and fishing hub. Prieto has worked in and around the archaeological site of Chan Chan, the ancient capital of the Chimú (A.D. 900-1470), as part of his life’s work around the study of ancient cultures and artifacts.
